Water Day

I melted today... it was sweltering outside and I was there most of the day. The kindergarteners have water day every year at the end of the school year. This year, the Boiling Springs Y is open and they have a splashpark. One of the K teachers worked it out so that the kids could do water day there this year. It was a lot of fun, but SO hot! Thank goodness for the pool, because I couldn't have stood it at the school with the measly sprinklers and dirty kiddie pools. We were there from 9 to 2... that's a long day. Because there are 6 kindergarten classes, they split up the kids into stations so it wasn't so crowded in the pool area. We were all pooped when we got home. Here's some pictures from today. (I didn't get any in the pool area... too many kids splashing around)

Our Little Writer

As the school year comes to an end, the kindergartners always have a celebration of what they've accomplished over the year. It's call the Author's Tea. It's kind of a formal event where they put on their Sunday clothes and all the parents come to the classroom. The kids have "authored" a book about their family and they read it to the whole crowd. It's really cute and the kids do a great job. I remember when Chandler had his, I was pregnant and cried about the whole time...hormones I guess. I didn't cry today, but I was very proud of Carter. He's a great reader and writer... with a huge imagination. Most of his story was what I'll call, fiction, but it's the thought that counts. At the end of the program they had a ice cream sundae party. Here's some pictures from the day.

The class sang a few songs & Carter really got into it.

Seasonal Nuisances

I am very thankful for God's beautiful creation, but I do have some complaints as each season rolls around. I went outside to hang out my laundry today and I was reminded of some of the things that bug me each season.

Summer brings lots of sunshine and great weather for getting wet but it also brings spider webs and flies! I can't stand flies. Every time I open my door at least 3 zoom in. Then I have to hear them buzzing, flying up against windows and trying to get out or getting stuck in my blinds...stupid things. I rarely ever actually hit one with the fly swatter though and that's not from lack of attempting. The whole spider web thing just drives me crazy. I walked out the door to hang clothes on my drying rack to find 2 pretty big webs in the corners... so then I have to find something to clean them off with while I'm holding a pile of wet clothes. Then as I walk around the corner to my clothesline I walk through a spider web and there is another wad of them in every corner they can find on the clothesline. They are all over my house and half of the time, I can't reach them and a water hose does nothing but make them a wet and dark wad that still hangs on.

Here's the rest of my "seasonal pains" and positives too.
Fall - the leaves are beautiful turning all the different colors. But then, they fall off the trees, leaving them ugly and bare for the rest of the winter. Then daylight savings time ends and you basically have hardly any day to enjoy. I also have ants that lure in my house. It's the little tiny ones that always linger around water, so they are usually in my bathroom and kitchen. However, I do love fall because the air starts getting cooler and I am always so ready for a break from the summer heat. All the great holiday's are approaching and it's something to look forward to.

Winter - it's cold... brrr. You got to bundle up (except for the past few winters... can we say global warming) everywhere you go to burn up once you get inside. My other fear... deer. I'm always paranoid driving in the country especially during the winter. I've hit a deer before... major damage to my van. Not a fan of them there creatures. I do love the snow in the winter. I wish for at least one good snow each year, though I rarely get my wish. Christmas is one of my favorite holidays and in the winter I love to bundle up on the couch and watch a movie.

Spring - pollen, pollen, and more pollen. Everything, everywhere is covered in a layer of yellow. Allergies, dirty clothes, itchy... need I say anymore. Also, bird poop. I don't know if they just don't congregate as much in the winter on my swingsets, but every spring, I can rarely go to the swingset, a chair, my wooden swing or any other place I might sit my hiney on... there's always bird poop. I especially hate the purple kind after they've had some berries to digest. But, I do love all the beautiful flowers that begin to bloom and trees finally begin to reshape. The air is starting to warm and spring fever always puts everyone in a better mood. Plus the days get longer too.

So that's my list. What's yours? I would love to read some comments.

Birthday Wishes and Weekend Fun

First of all I have to say Happy Birthday to my Mom! Today is her special day and I just want to say how much she means to me and how thankful I am for her...Love you mom!

We had a full weekend, but a lot of fun. Friday night I got a girls night out with a friend. We met at the coffee house in Shelby and talked until they ran us out of the place and then stayed in the parking lot talking until 10:45. It was a much needed break and refreshment. It does every mom good to have a night out once in a while. Saturday afternoon Corby took the kids to the new splash park at the Boiling Springs Y and then we headed to Lincolnton for a birthday party that was a lot of fun. After church today, we all went back to the splash park for the afternoon. The boys really had a lot of fun and that is going to be a GREAT place to hang out this summer. The water is still a little cool for me but the boys didn't seem to mind until they got out of the pool. Carter's lips were purple, but he didn't care and jumped right back in. I think if the sun had been blaring the whole afternoon it wouldn't have been so chilly. It's going to feel great this summer when it's 100 degrees outside.

I've had lots churning through my head the past couple days, so I'll have lots to say this week. I hope I will have time to share them all while they are fresh. It's going to be a busy week since this is the boys last full week of school. I can't believe summer is already here.
