Sleeping results

I was in the middle of this last night, when I was interrupted just after midnight with a sick 5 year old and cleaning him & his bed up from throw up. Ewwww... I HATE that smell. Anyhoo....back to the poll results. I got more comments that I ever have before...yippie! The consensus is that women are neat sleepers and men are messy. Only one of the comments referred to the woman being messy too. I guess it's just the nature of a woman to be organized in every way. It balances the men. I know some are opposite (the man is neat & woman is messy) but overall we all need that or we would drive ourselves crazy if we were both the same. I was really surprised that most of the women could pull the covers up virtually no mess the next morning. I thought I was weird for doing that. Obviously I'm not the sole "neat sleeper" of this world. It's good to know my girls have my back... hee, hee!

Keeping my head above water

I'm floating... using a life preserver... but I'm staying above water. My house is a wreck, my laundry keeps piling up, my dishes are multiplying overnight and every room looks like a tornado hit it. However, I don't really care. I've been busy doing other things... like 400 wedding invitations... to really have time to care. It drives me crazy to have my house a wreck, but I'm biting my lip and saying, it doesn't matter and it will get better. This too shall pass...

Kensley has hit the destructive phase and that's partly why my house is upside down. She pulls everything out... everything. I've stepped on too many hot wheels cars to count, tripped over my mini vacuum at least 50 times this week, I search for my hairbrush daily and put books back on the shelves 2 or 3 times a day, just to name a few. I forget how tiresome a toddler is. When we go outside it wears me out ( I guess that shows how out of shape I am). She flip-flops from the swing, to the slide, to a different slide, back to the swing, to the sand box, to the trampoline, etc. She's really a good baby, she's just a busy body. She will entertain herself for quite a while when I need to get something done, I just have a big mess to pick up afterwards.

I probably won't post much this week or next because I've got lots going on, but I'll stop in for a quick note a few times.

Passing the Mom Test

I got this in an email from my Mom today. It's so funny I just had to share (since most people reading this are Moms)

Definition of a mom
I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that. 'Why?' my daughter asked. 'Because it's been on the ground, you don't know where it's been, it's dirty, and probably has germs' I replied. At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked, 'Momma, how do you know all this stuff, you are so smart.' I was thinking quickly. 'All moms know this stuff. It's on the Mom Test. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mom.' We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information. 'OH...I get it!' she beamed, 'So if you don't pass the test you have to be the dad. ''Exactly' I replied back with a big smile on my face.

When you' re finished laughing, send this to a Mom

Random thoughts of a 5 year old

This was just too funny to pass up posting...

Carter is so proud that he is learning to read & sound out words (and we are too). Apparently he was bored one afternoon at my parents, so he decided to bust out the 'ole pen & paper and practice. I hope you can read the words he wrote inside his hand print that he traced. I've written the actual word beside it...mind you, these are VERY random...obviously stuff that was on his mind at the moment. The drawing is a picture of a soldier.
***Still waiting for more comments on your sleep habits... so far, the ladies are right there with me.

How neat do you sleep?

As I was making the bed this morning, I was thinking about how easy it was for me to just pull the covers up & throw the pillows on the bed...2 minutes, max. I've been at my parents for the past few days & I slept in my old bed. I discovered that I'm a very neat sleeper. Meaning, I don't throw the covers everywhere & rip them from being tucked in at the bottom. When I got in bed on Sunday night, I pulled down the quilt & got in bed. I didn't even untuck the covers from one side of the bed. I didn't have to share it with anyone, so it stayed nice & neat the whole time. On the other hand, Corby is a very messy sleeper. I have to fix the covers nightly in our bed at home. (I have this thing about having everything even & in place... it makes me sleep better. I also, have to have the flat sheet touching me... no blankets.) He can't stand for his feet to feel trapped, so he almost always pulls the covers out from the bottom... this just sets you up for a mess of the covers. When he turns in bed, he takes the covers with him. Over the past 11 years, he is slowly learning how to turn without taking all the covers with him. It's still messy every day... and no, I don't hardly ever make up my bed at home, so it stays messy until we get in bed at night.

I'm curious... how neat do you sleep? I would love for you to post some comments. I'll do a wrap up when they all come in.

Happy Easter!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! We've been gone the past few days making our rounds to both families. The kids are on spring break this week so me & the kids left on Friday to go to Statesville for a couple days. All the grandkids had a great time playing together on Sat. Corby had to work, so he stayed at home. We came home on Sat. night and we went to our church on Sunday morning. We had a wonderful service. Normally our church has 3 services each Sunday, but we combined them all into one... it was packed. We even had an overflow room that was full. After church we all headed to Granite Falls to my parents (I'm still here now). My aunt & cousin joined us for lunch on Sunday and the kids had an Easter Egg hunt. Mimi hid eggs around the house & the kids had fun finding them. Kensley loved it! It was her first hunt. She would get excited, giggle & squeal when she spotted an egg. They found lots of eggs with candy and even some with money. Corby went home Sunday night and me & the kids have stayed here the past few days. The boys have had fun with PawPaw Vern working outside. On Monday, they went lawnmower shopping with him...which will probably be the highlight of the trip for them. They went to lunch & saw some of our friends from Charlotte. They got to play on the playground at Chick-fil-A with them for a while. It was a nice surprise. Poor Kensley has a bruised cheek & now a big whelp on her head. She's hitting the clumsy stage. I'll have to post a picture of her tomorrow. We are headed home in the morning.
I posted some pictures of the kids from Sunday. Kensley is at the age now that she doesn't want to stand still for pictures. I'll be pressed to get a good one of them all together for a while.

Mountains & Molehills

I am no longer being held hostage by the mounds of clothes, toys & nursery stuff that had invaded my living room for the past month & half. I took 265 items to drop off at the consignment sale on Sunday.. woo, hoo! However, my lack of organization & cleaning is leaving me somewhat stressed at the moment. Have I done anything about it... nope. I swore once I took all the stuff out of the house, I would clean & straighten up. It's almost Wednesday and I haven't yet. Just to prove how much stuff I took, here's a few pictures that I look of my mountains: (the clothes pile is about half of it's original size because I had some friends come & buy stuff early)

I learned a lesson today... do not take Kensley shopping when she is sleepy. (Mental note marked in my brain). My Mom came down for a couple days & we went shopping in Gaffney today. Kensley was really tired, because she still takes a morning nap, so I was sure she would sleep on the 30 min ride down there. She fell asleep about 5 min before we pulled into the Hamricks parking lot. Drats... maybe she will sleep in the stroller.... not a chance. Unless she was eating or walking (very independently I might add) she was not happy. I was on an unsuccessful mission to find something to wear for Easter. While I understand the theory behind his reason, our worship pastor requests that we wear solid colors. That makes it very hard for a woman to find something. Your selection is narrowed by 75%. Needless to say, I'm still searching.
