I have a good excuse... well, not really. Work. If you can call that an excuse. I guess between Facebook & Twitter... I feel like I post plenty of stuff that keeps me up-to-date with the world and everyone can see pictures of my kids and what's going on in our lives. That's kind of scary to think about... but I digress. Anyways, my whole point of having a blog is to keep track of stuff. Like life. Little things, big things, funny things, silly things, interesting things... you get the point. I've not been so good at that lately. {sad face} It's been quite a whirlwind the past year. I started my own business... Kendra's Creations and I must say that it has gone really well. I design stuff. I've always loved to be crafty and this is totally my outlet to do so AND get paid for it. Cha-ching... even better. So, I call it my job now, because I work & get paid for it. But it's fun. So it's a good job. One that I can sit in my PJ's until lunch & work. I can listen to music or have peace & quite, wash clothes, talk on the phone, attempt to keep the house clean... ahem.... and still be at home with my kids when they get home from school. I must say, it's been a challenge to keep up with some of these things while working from home. I would much rather being designing a logo or making a pretty notebook than loading the dishwasher. Sometimes it's very evident from the plethora of dishes that accumulate on the countertop, but it's all still worth it. Dishes will always be there... just as much as the mountain of laundry that grows in my baskets each week. I am truly grateful that God has blessed me with this opportunity this past year and I pray that it continues to grow & thrive.

On to the kids now... let's see... we are halfway through the school year. What?!! Seriously I can't believe it's gone by so fast. I mean, Chandler is going to be driving like next year at the rate that we are going. Kindergarten orientation is coming up in a couple months for Kensley & Carter will be in his last year of elementary school next year. Geez.

Chandler had his first band "concert" last night at the middle school. He is doing great playing the trumpet. He's even made first chair. He loves it & I'm so glad. I hope he's going to be a great musician. Carter loved playing football and I think he's geared up & ready for the next sports season, although we will all admit, it's been nice having a little break. Kensley is still loving dance. She's learning how to do a cartwheel and she think's that's just the greatest thing.

I have to brag on my hubs for a moment too. He saved a life last month. Yep. This makes the #3rd life he's come to the rescue for. I believe that God puts him in the right place at the right time. I'm thankful for that. While working late at the Y one night, he was making rounds checking on things & socializing when a man playing a wallyball game had a heart attack. Corby stepped up & took control of the situation. He & some others were administering CPR & Corby had to use the AED machine on this gentleman and shocked him twice. The doctors said had he not used this device, he would not be alive today. Wow!

I have recently become somewhat obsessed with Twilight. I never really had any interest at all to watch the movies and NEVER would have even thought twice about reading those ridiculously long books. I mean, I don't read and those books are like 500 plus pages each. However, my niece Kaitlyn got me started. She just couldn't believe that I had never seen the movies, so we had a movie weekend when we were in Statesville a few months back and watched the first 3 movies. That's all it took. I knew then where all the hype was coming from because I was hooked. The movies were SOOOO good!

After watching all 4 movies (and going to the theater 3 times to see Breaking Dawn: Part 1... just don't even say anything about that) I would have to say I became a "Twihard". There was no way that I could wait a whole year to know what happens in Part 2 of Breaking Dawn, so I decided I might be interested in reading the books. I mean, everyone that has read them talked about how good they were. So, I borrowed the books from a friend and I read the first book... all 494 pages... in 24 hours. Really, it was quite unbelievable. I couldn't put them down. I finished all 4 books in about 2 & half weeks. It happened to be over Christmas break, so I didn't have to worry about waking up for early mornings. I stayed up til 1 & 2 am most nights reading... not being willing to be satisfied with "just one more chapter". I've never read any books as good as these. The love story is just so incredible and I guess that's what draws me to the movies & the books. Sooooo.....

A look back at the year 2011

Well, yes... I have been a little... um, a lot... behind on blogging lately. I want to but the time is just not there. I've been so busy with my job that blogland has taken a back burner. I am so thankful for my job though. It's been such a blessing. So to sum up a whole year in 7ish minutes, I'm just going to let you watch this video. And I'll hopefully have a little more time to devote to blogging in the near future!

A Tribute to Remember

Today Cleveland County honored the life of a fallen soldier who served our country. I do not know this man but my family stood to honor him as the processional made its way through our city.

I hadn’t really thought about it much… other than “that’s sad that happened”… and “he was from Shelby”. My friend texted me last night & asked if I was going to processional. My first thought was “no, I didn’t even know him”. But then I started thinking… we have a family member serving right now and a good friend who was deployed just about a month ago. This processional today wasn’t just for one man, it was for all soldiers…past and present….ones who have served, ones that are there now, those that will serve in the future. So many have sacrificed for our country… willingly… and today this soldier did not come home to hug his family, but he came home in a different way.

As I watched the hundreds of cars drive by, looking into the eyes of those I could see… tears, smiles, cameras… I wondered what they must have been thinking. They drove for 7 miles with people alongside the roads the entire drive. Tears filled my eyes.

Business closed for a few hours or excused their employees to come out in support… parents pulled kids out of school early to go…two entire schools brought their kids out in front of the school…. little kids (including mine) who probably don’t even understand what was going on. For a few short hours, people stopped…. they stood alongside a road, most of them holding a flag, in silence, hands covering their hearts. People showed that they cared and I am honored that my family was able to experience that. Not only for Sgt. Chris Newman… but for all the fallen soldiers and those who are serving now.

What was witnessed today will be forever etched in my mind. I’ve never experienced this before and I hope I never will have to experience it again. Today I am thankful… for the freedom to live in a country that sometimes comes at a price…and for the freedom of eternal life that comes because of my Savior.

My baby turned 5 today… a whole 5 years old. {I’m hyperventilating a little.} We celebrated her birthday on Friday night at the Dover YMCA with her Hello Kitty birthday party. She was a little confused about the actual date that she turned 5 and on the way to her party she said “now I’m not the real 5 today… right Mom? We are just “sal-a-brating” my birthday today and I will turn 5 next week… right Mom?” So stinkin cute!

She is such a sweet girl with such personality. What a joy to have her in our lives. I am so blessed by all my children but God giving us a girl was the icing on the cake for me. She’s such a priss and a diva but can hold her own in a fight with her brothers and get down right dirty as well. She’s a good listener, tender-hearted, compassionate, a leader, spunky and so much more.

She is in her last year of preschool at Aldersgate, started her first year of dance and loves life! Here are a few pictures of her party.

The Boys of Fall

Carter is playing tackle football this year. He has begged since Kindergarten to play and finally this year, we gave in. He’s been so excited… to get to practice, to get the gear, and now to play the game.

They started off the season with the Cleveland County Football Jamboree at Crest High School. This is where all the teams in the county come together & scrimmage. I had no idea that football at this level would be so huge. I was somewhat surprised when we arrived to a full parking lot and lots & lots of people. Here are a few pics … Carter kept the bench warm until the last few minutes of the game.

This past Saturday, September 17 was the first official game at Springmore Elementary. Carter played a bit more in this game as the kicker/punter and also linebacker.

First Day of School

Goodbye summer…another school year is underway. Today my boys started school. Chandler is in the 6th grade at Crest Middle School. A new adventure for him. He is on the Sharks team and starting band. Wow! It was a rough start to the morning for both of us, but he ended up having a great day. (this was an after school picture)

Carter is in Mrs. Hunt’s 4th grade class at BSE. We were very excited because Chandler had her as well and we loved her. Carter also has several of his good buddies in his class this year. I got a very encouraging note from his teacher this afternoon saying what a great day he had & how proud she was of him for making the new kid in his class feel welcome. Aww….

This is a first for us this year… 3 kids at 3 different schools. Seems strange in a way. Kensley starts preschool next week and she’s very excited about it. I think all of the kids are going to have a great year.

Middle School here we come!

Tomorrow we have a major life event taking place in our family. My oldest son Chandler starts middle school. Middle school… really? I mean, wasn’t it just last year that I was nervous about him starting 3rd grade? Ahhh, how quickly these kids grow up.

Mixed emotions elude from our family… excitement, yet nervousness… anticipation, yet sadness. We’ve had lots of talks this summer and I think he’s ready… I know he’s ready… it just the growing up that gets me most. He comes just above my shoulder & before long I will be looking up to him. I remember the first day I brought him home from the hospital. Holding him, looking into those blue eyes, thinking I never wanted that moment to change. I loved him with every being in my body. Rocking him to sleep, so tiny, so precious. Growing up was a distant thought in my mind. I was enjoying him being little and didn’t have to worry about that whole school thing for a long, long time. Before you know it, it’s here and now he’s a young man and I’m sending him off to middle school. To me this is huge. The beginning of a new era in our lives… the teenage years. The growing up, the forming of who he is, the making of a man.

“For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you & not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11

Chandler, I know God is forming you to be the man you will become. Each day he molds & shapes you little by little. My prayer for you is to be the LIGHT in this world…be the difference in someone’s life. We love you sweet boy & are so proud of you! You are going to do great!!!

I love pictures! I take lots of pictures & love to have our pictures taken. Photos to me are priceless. I feel like sometimes I see life through the lens of a camera but I don’t want to miss anything. I want to capture it all in hopes that I will lock in that memory to have for the future. Now if I can just get back to scrapbooking those memories. Anyway, I’ve always wanted family pictures on the beach. I’ve joked that I was going to pack one of my photographer friends in my suitcase one year when we go to the beach. Well, so happened this year that one of my friends, who is a photographer, was vacationing the same week as my family & she was just right down the beach from us. She made some great photos of our family.

Kensley loves to sing...especially LOUD! After we saw the movie Soul Surfer, we had to get the soundtrack & it had this song on it. We were on our way home from the pool one afternoon & the boys were beating the seats AKA "playing the drums" and Kensley was giving us her loudest performance. I just happened to catch it on video. Mind you, this is a frequent occurrence in our car.

Build A Bear

I’m short a kid this week and it’s been kinda strange. Chandler is spending the week with my parents… a little one on one time. Today I took Kensley & Carter to Build A Bear. This was a long, overdue reward for Kensley… that she stopped sucking her thumb. Walking around the mall with 2 kiddos instead of 1 felt like I was missing something.

Anyhoo, it was a lot of fun! One of my best friends from college works there so it was double the fun getting to catch up with her as well. While we were there we got to meet a frequent shopper in their store. He has 295 bears… every bear ever put out by Build A Bear. Geez! We even got to see pictures of his collection! He was in to purchase the 3rd bear of the latest ones released.

Kensley chose the Hello Kitty bear… eh, can you call it a bear???? She’s very much into Hello Kitty right now, so it was quite appropriate that she pick this one out.

Even though Carter thought it was a little “babyish” to build a bear, when he saw the Panthers outfit, he changed his mind. He picked out a dog that is REALLY soft. We even built an army bear for Chandler too. I mean… while we’re there. I’m used to things in threes…

FYI… Build A Bear is having a super duper sale… through August 18th (I think). You can get any of their bears (err… animals), an outfit & shoes for $29.95… ya know, if you feel the need to build a bear too.

Beach baby, beach baby…yeah, yeah, yeah!

We are home from our summer vacation. Our annual trip with the Stamey family to North Myrtle Beach is always a fun week and goes by way too fast.

This year was so nice. We did a lot of relaxing and playing. We stayed late on the beach, late at the pool, slept in and played lots of games.

My friend DonnaKay (who is a fabulous photographer… check out her website here) was at the beach the same week and we were so fortunate to have her take our pictures. They turned out great & I’ll share the rest of them with you in another post.

We stayed at my friend Leslie’s condo at Tighlman Beach & Golf Resort. This place has a great pool & lazy river area and the kids loved playing there. We also had plenty of beach time. The kids dug plenty of holes and built lots of “towns” and sandcastles.

We also saw a lady who was stung by a stingray. The stingray was hooked to some fishing line which wrapped around and hooked her foot as well. Ick. I didn’t really get back into the water after that.

Now that we are home it’s time to get back into the groove and get ready for school. Summer is quickly coming to an end but it has been full of fun and laughter. Enjoy this slideshow of our trip!

Ok, so I admit at this point that I am a "Blockhead"... and I don't mean the dipsy kind. (Don't judge me :-) This weekend I had a fabulous girls weekend with one of my great girlfriends from college. As part of that weekend I attended yet another New Kids on the Block concert... this will be my 4th in the past 3 years. (Click here and here to see my first 3 trips). Except this concert was even better because the Backstreet Boys were touring with them to make a combination of NKOTBSB!

Of course as a teeny bopper in the late 80's & early 90's I loved me some New Kids. I attended many of their concerts, had my room plastered in posters & magazine covers, purchased many t-shirts and big buttons, recorded every episode of Arsenio Hall and any other TV show that they appeared on and of course had all the cassette tapes, singles cassesttes and VHS tapes that came out.

As they started to phase out & new boy bands tried to replace them... (never will happen but that's beside the point)... the Backstreet Boys came on the scene. They were in a battle as best boy band in the mid-late 90's with NSync. But the BSB (Backstreet Boys) would be the only group that would even come close to my New Kids. I'm older, more mature at this point... still liking this group a lot & purchasing all of their cd's... but still just not the same.

Fast-forward to early 2008. There is "talk" that a new website is up & running at www.nkotb.com. What?! Are they coming back?????? You can imagine my excitement as all the memories came rushing back from the days of neon hammer pants and big hair. May 2008 the official announcement is released & NKOTB makes their first appearance as a group on the today show. I think I screamed like a little girl!

Who knew that this boy band from the 80's could make a come back & be successful and still running strong after 3 years. It's funny because all of those teen girls are now 30 & 40 somethings and I think this group is even more popular now than they were 20 years ago! They announced last year that they were joining with the Backstreet Boys and would start touring again in 2011. Cha-ching! Yep, that brings even more of a crowd and of course, I was gonna have to see them again.

Me & Darlene had a fabulous time and it was a GREAT concert! Probably one of the best one's yet. Maybe it's because it's been a couple years since I've seen them... maybe it's because I really needed a girls night out... maybe it's because we had awesome seats... or maybe all of the above. So, I forever will be a NKOTBSB fan and if they tour again, you can probably guess you'll be reading another post about a concert that I went to. :-)

Buster the Dog

I would like to introduce you to our dog. His name is Buster. Well, technically his name is Trouble, but we didn’t feel that was a good dog name so we’ve decided to call him Buster & hope he catches on.

The boys have begged for a dog ever since they could say the word. I’ve been a firm “NO” for a good 9 years now and this week I finally gave in. I’ve got the whole “every boy needs a dog” spill from the husband and the begging excuse of “it will help us to be more responsible” from the kids. Blech. It’s not that I don’t like dogs… I love dogs…. I just don’t need anything else to have to feed for take care of. That’s been my excuse for so long. Here’s the story on how it all went down.

We talked about getting the boys a dog for their birthday this year. I was about convinced of it until I talked to several pet owners. They confirmed for me all the reasons you don’t want a pet. Ehhh…. errr… I’m not sure… “I think I’ll stick with still NO!”. Ok. Done. No dog. End of story. {enter persistent begging from children and spouse}.

The boys were planning to go to camp for a week and Kensley was going to be at my parents for a few days. Corby happens to mention that it would be a really cool surprise for the kids to come home & have a dog waiting on them. {caving begins} One night a couple weeks ago I’m browsing on facebook and up pops a post from a friend “please help find a home for these puppies”. I click on the picture. Really, really cute puppy on the picture. {Awwww… it would be kind of cute to have a puppy.} Me: “Hey Corby, here’s a girl trying to find a home for this cute puppy… isn’t he cute?” {insert cue for Corby that I have finally caved} Corby: “Yeah, he’s cute. See what you can find out”.

That’s what started it all. The puppy was a no-go, but that lead to another free dog (that we didn’t really feel like was a good match for our family)… which lead to Corby going to the pound on the way home from dropping off the boys at camp and almost bringing a dog home… which lead to him calling the animal hospital on Tuesday morning and there you have it. We have a dog. A man in Kings Mountain had a bunch of hunting dogs and this particular dog didn’t care to hunt so he was trying to find a home for him. Corby & I went to take a look at him and fell in love with this pooch. He was sweet from the beginning & never barked… just wagged his tail a lot.

We brought him home on Tuesdsay, July 2. Kensley came home on Wednesday & saw the dog for the first time. The boys came home on Friday at lunch. Here’s the video of their reaction to the dog…. priceless!

They’ve loved this dog ever since. I think he’s going to be a great pet for our family. Welcome home Buster!

Happy 9th Birthday… Carter

July 1, my middle child turned 9. “Red”… as he’s affectionately know by me most of the time… is growing up fast. He’s such a good kid. Hard headed like you wouldn’t believe but sweet as can be. He loves football and fishing and wants to do them daily. He loves any kind of sports really. He’s a hard worker and helps me around the house a lot. He’s also a big helper with his little sister. He takes her under his wing and teaches her lots of things… multiplication tables, how to draw and how to drop kick a soccer ball. He’s a leader and makes friends easily and will pretty much do anything for you. I love it!

Celebrate good times…

Saturday, we had our annual 4th of July gathering with my girlfriends from college and their families. They all came to Boiling Springs and we met at the YMCA. Our group was a little slim this year but we still had a great time.

We swam, talked, ate yummy food and even had a game of corn hole. It was a great time together as usual.

This is Heather & her 3 sons, Oak, Ezra & Abe. She is very pregnant with her 4th son… just a few weeks away.

15 Years and counting….

Wednesday, June 29th we celebrated 15 years of marriage. 15 years! Wow, that seems like a really long time. I am so thankful for these years with my man. In 15 years we’ve both graduated from college, purchased our first home (which we are still living in), had 3 beautiful children, had many wonderful vacations together, made many great memories as a family and so, so much more! We are going to really celebrate later on this year with a cruise, just the two of us.

I am thankful for a Godly man who I am raising my children with. Here’s to the past 15 years and many, many more together. I love you babe!

While we were vacationing in Pigeon Forge, we made a trip to Dollywood. We’ve never been before. My sister in law has season passes so she got most of us in for free! Yippie! We had a fun-filled day & got to spend some time with cousins. It’s a great amusement park & I would highly recommend if you are ever there & thinking of going. It’s a big park & we didn’t get to all of it, but fun nonetheless.

We watched a great show called A Gazillion Bubbles! It was pretty cool.

Vacation in the Mountains

Ahh summer vacations! I do enjoy them. Our first up was a trip to Pigeon Forge with my parents & my Aunt Connie. We rented a cabin in the mountains and spent a few days relaxing, eating good food and having fun.

We had a jacuzzi tub in our cabin. Of course that was one of the first things the kids had to do! Daddy added a little shampoo to the bath water & turned on the jets!

Connie had many, many makeovers while we were there. She & Kensley had fun giving each other makeovers.

The boys played lots of baseball, football & riding of scooters.

We celebrated Father’s Day there.

The boys got creative with whatever they could find. They went a little “gangsta” on us with some plant stems. The view from our porch.

Another year older… another birthday party down. On Sunday, June 12 we had the boys birthday party at the Ruby YMCA waterpark. The kids got to enjoy the rock climbing wall & the pool because of the crazy wet weather on that day. They chose a sports theme party this year… and of course Chandler wanted a soccer cake & Carter wanted a football cake. Chandler turned 11 on May 24th and Carter will be 9 on July 1st.

School’s Out!

Can’t believe that I’m already saying that summer break is officially here. This school year went by super-dee-duper fast… geez! The boys had a fantastic year and great teachers. I’ll start with Carter & his teacher Mrs. Triplett.

She has been fantastic for Carter! He loved her & his class and never wanted to miss school or leave early. He told me all year long that Mrs. Triplett is one of the best teachers he’s ever had.

Mrs. Bowen was his assistant teacher and he loves her too! Couldn’t have asked for better teachers for his 3rd grade year.

He also had a really great group of kids in his class this year too. His best friend Jack was in his class and these 4 I called the “Quad Squad”… they were inseparable… always together, all the time.

Chandler finished up his last year of elementary school…sigh. I remember like yesterday when he started Kindergarten… and now he’s on to middle school.

She did a great job preparing her class for middle school & Chandler grew by leaps & bounds this year in class.

The day before the last day of school the entire 5th grade had a cookout & awards ceremony.

Chandler won an award for the A & B Honor Roll and his class award was the “Milky Way Award” for class daydreamer. It’s supposed to be funny….

Here is Chandler & his best bud Caleb… they’ve been together since they were in preschool… in class together every year except for Kindergarten and 2nd grade.

The Boys New Room

For the boys birthday this year we redecorated their room. It got a fresh coat of paint… used to be stripes on the walls…we rid the room of 2 large, black garbage bags full of toys, clean out & reorganized. We also got them new dressers… each. Sharing a dresser was becoming quite a challenge as it was very small and only had 5 tiny drawers. I found these dressers at IKEA for a fabulous price! I bought 2 dressers for the price of one that I have looked at other stores.

This wall is going to get a big UNC logo… when we get around to it.

Motorcycles & Cute Babies

We spent the weekend in Statesville with the family. All of the men & boy cousins were planning a camp out for Friday night. Well, the weather wasn’t so cooperative, so they had to pitch a tent on the back porch of Amanda & Aaron’s house. Which was fine… except these boys were in & out, in & out, in & out… until well after midnight. I think they finally settled down around 1 or 1:30 am. The girls were going to have a girls night too… and we did, just with quite a few interruptions since the boys were not back in the depths of the woods somewhere. ha!

Saturday panned out much better with plenty of sunshine & plenty of mud. Cousin Preston & Uncle Aaron have lots of cool toys at their house… including a dune buggy and motorcycles. So that’s what the boys did. All. Day. Long.

And plenty of muddy they all got!

While the boys were outside playing, I was inside playing with my twin nieces who I adore! They are so cute & so much fun right now.

All around me I am hearing story after story of a situation where people are hurt, families are broken, tragedy has struck, someone has passed away and on and on. It's kind of got me down in the dumps a little. If' I'm discouraged just by hearing these stories, I can't even imagine how the ones who are living it must feel. I heard this song a couple weeks ago and wanted to share it with you. It spoke much encouragement to me. Even when we don't know or realize it, God shows his mercies and blessings to us in ways we will never understand.

Prayer

We had prayer conference recently at our church and the speaker share with us something that I have never really thought about before. Yes, I know God knows all of our requests before we bring them to Him. Still, I always feel the need to ask. But it's about intercessory prayer...with the Holy Spirit. If we will allow him, He will show us how to pray and what to pray for. This verse spoke to me in a profound way...

Romans 8:26 in The Message says this "Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God's Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don't know how or what to pray, it doesn't matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans."

I don't think this is an excuse to not pray, it's just when we are stuck... not sure... empty.... broken... hurt and there are feelings but no words, the Holy Spirit steps in for us. God knows our hearts and knows our innermost being and that kind of intercessory prayer can be the most powerful sometimes.

Today is Chandler’s 11th birthday. He is growing up to be such a young man. He’s almost as tall as me and we can wear the same size shoe!

I am so proud of him. He is smart, funny, creative and kind-hearted. He is a huge help around the house. Give him a task and he’s on it! Right now his dream is to be a fireman someday…because he’s been fascinated by them since he was 3. All he talks about is getting old enough to be a volunteer firefighter.

He goes to middle school next school year and that’s gonna be a huge step for both of us. My, how time flies by.

We love you “Chan-the-man” and can’t wait to see what God has in store for you!

I am so thankful today for my 3 beautiful children. I am blessed to be called their mother and to have the opportunity for Corby and I to raise them. Looking at this picture makes me realize how fast they really are growing up. I am also thankful today for my Mom! She and my Daddy raised me in a Godly home and has always been a wonderful example to me. I love you mom! Happy Mother’s Day.

Teacher Appreciation Notes

I found this idea online several years ago & still love it. I’ve done these each year for my kids to give for Teacher Appreciation Week.

Here’s how I created them:

My camera (a Canon) has a setting called color accent that allows you to focus in on one color and make all the rest of the picture black and white. I wrote “Thank You” with green sidewalk chalk on my driveway. Picked that color as my accent on the camer and took the picture… you can see that it also picked up the green in the grass as I did not write the words far enough over. Download your pictures & then in open them in photoshop (or I’ve also used a scrapbooking software and Paint…which most people have on their computers). I typed in my message to add to the picture and saved it. Print out a 4x6 & wallah! A great, personalized & very cute note.

5th Grade Field Trip

Chandler’s last field trip as an elementary school kid has passed. *Sigh*

Each year Boiling Springs does something pretty big for them… because it’s a pretty big deal. This year they went to the National Whitewater Center in Belmont. Corby tagged along as parent chaperone this time. They didn’t raft but got to do flat water kayaking and geo tracking plus some other stuff. Here’s a few pictures from their big trip.

Field Trip: Discovery Place

Carter's 3rd grade class went on a field trip a couple weeks ago to Discovery Place. I tagged along with him as a parent chaperon. It's been a long time since I've been there and a good bit has changed but still it's a pretty cool place to visit. We wished we'd had a bit more time to explore the exhibits and play but we were able to do most of it.

We spent the first part of the break at Mimi & PawPaw’s. The kids had a blast there as usual and I got to spend some quality time shopping with my Mom, just like we used to do. The kids slept in the tree house with PawPaw 2 nights. He even rigged it to where they had a tv in there & got to watch movies before bed!

Crazy Spring Weather

Seems like the past few years we've skipped spring & fall. We go straight from summer to winter and from winter to summer. I miss the 60's & 70 temps around here. I go from sweaters to shorts. I guess I'll chalk it up to global warming or something like that.

You don't typically think of spring being tornado season. And, well, I don't really think of our area being tornado prone either. But for the past 3 weekends, we've had some crazy weather with severe thunderstorms, hail & even tornadoes. Last weekend, April 9th, we had about 4 pretty strong weather systems to move through Cleveland County. The first one kind of blew over our house but the last 3 produced some nasty wind, downpours and hail.

See...

If this is gonna keep up, I'll forgo my 60 & 70's and take just plain ole thunderstorms.

I had the pleasure this weekend to spend some much needed time away with some of my best girlfriends from college. We headed to Myrtle Beach for some R & R and that's exactly what we got. It was so much fun! The drive down Friday afternoon went by so fast because we all were talking the entire way. We went out for supper, stayed up really late both nights talking, dipped our toes into the freezing ocean, sat in the hot tub, talked, took naps, talked, ate some more, watched movies, talked, slept...you get the point. My only complaint is that the weekend went by too fast. But that's what happens when you are having fun.

We all had a fabulous time as we reminisced about our college days and all the funny & stupid things we did. We've grown up but nothing has changed between any of us. We were missing a few ladies... (Heather, Linda, Janet)... but still had a fabulous time together. This will definitely be a yearly... maybe even more... event. I love you girls!!!

Daddy Daughter Date Night

The Saturday before Valentine's Day (Febrary 12th) was a Princess Date Night at the Dover YMCA. This is the 2nd year the Y has held this event and Kensley & Corby had a date night. She couldn't wait to have her Daddy all to herself. We picked out a dress... or two or three... and ended up with something completely different. She took a shower & I fixed her hair & even put on a little makeup & she pranced into the living room to catch the gaze of her Daddy. She was SO excited! I only got this one picture because I was not allowed anywhere near the dance. I did hear that Corby was the limbo king and Kensley danced her little heart out all night long. After the date, Corby took her to Dairy Queen for ice cream.

Me & the boys went on a date too... except we went out to eat pizza & play in the arcade. It was a fun night for everyone. Reminds me that we should do it more often.

A Balmy 70 Degrees

The Lord blessed us with such a beautiful day this past Friday! It was above 70 and the kids were in shorts & tees... in February. I know it's short lived but it was nice to be outside & enjoy some sunshine for a change.

We met some friends (Katelyn & Mackenzie) at the park for a playdate & lunch

The after we picked up Bubbas from school, Kensley had a tea party on the front porch with her babies...

and the boys played football, soccer & whatever else they could entertain themselves with.

... however, it appears on my blog as if I have. I've been so NOT posting lately and reason being is, well... I just haven't had time. See, I've been working like a mad woman on thirty-one logos the past few weeks. Remember the few that I posted a week or so ago? We'll I've done more... and more... and even more. I am SO incredibly blessed to be able to have this opportunity to do something that I love, something that I vowed I would promote this year (my business) and get paid for doing it. Can it get any better? I think not. (well, I'm sure it could but I'm just thankful for what I have so far).

So, you probably are not going to see me much in the few weeks approaching because I've got a lot of stuff going on right now. So here's my chance to take a plug at a couple things coming up...

A Little Under the Weather

I've been blog-AWOL this week, and well, sort of the past few weeks. Sorry. Last week I was helping nurse a sick little 4 yr old back to health and in the process of that I got something myself. I haven't felt this bad in a really, really long time. I went to the doctor yesterday & she tested me for strep but it came back negative, much to everyone's surprise that took a look at my bright red throat yesterday. She gave me an antibiotic anyways & said hopefully this will help. It has. Today is actually the first day I've felt like sitting up for more than 5 min. I'm tired of laying around but have no desire to do anything else, or anything productive for that matter. But I thought I would blog.

I've also been quite busy working on logos...you might have noticed my new one in the upper right corner. These new ones have been for several consultants from Thirty-One (ya know, the bags). See, my friend Renee asked me to create a logo for her team. So I did. She then posted it on the national director page or something like that & I've got about 7 emails so far for people wanting me to do a logo for them. Yay! Here's a few that I've completed so far and working on 3 more at the moment. Loving this... I'm happy to say that these logos are going to be proudly displayed on their shirt at their national convention thingy in July. Woop, woop!

Haneline Family Christmas

We celebrated Christmas & rang in the New Year with Corby's family last weekend. We spent Thursday through Sunday with the family and had lots of fun with cousins, brothers, sisters, in-laws, nieces, nephews... well, you get the point. I got to hold my sweet twin nieces a lot & loved it & listened to lots of loud kids playing and having a blast.

It's always a fun time at the Haneline house. Here's a few pics from our festive weekend.

Another year down. Seems like 2010 went by really, really fast for me. But alas, a new year is here & I'm gung ho to get it going. Here are some goals for me to accomplish this year (I'm gonna say goals instead of new year's resolutions)... and these are in no particular order.

- Start a mom/women's bible study book... or even possibly a Bible study group.
- Finish reading Bringing Up Girls and re-read Bringing Up Boys... by James Dobson.
- Say yes more often to my family and no more often to other stuff.
- Go through each room in my house & get rid of stuff
- Re-do the boys room & get a dresser to fit all of their clothes
- Get my business going more and do more advertising
- read to my kids more
- take more videos of my kids... I take way more pics than videos
-transfer all my vhs tapes to dvd

Ok... there you have it. I've blogged it so therefore I'm accountable. What are your "goals" for the new year?

Two of My Favorite Things: Christmas and Snow

And they both happened on the same day! We had a wonderful Christmas! We stayed home this year for Christmas. We normally spend Christmas with family but this year the kids wanted to be at our house so we stayed here and plan to travel later this week to spend time with our families. On Friday my parents and my aunt & cousin came to our house for the Kirby/Cobb/Haneline Christmas celebrations. The kids opened tons of presents and we ate lots of yummy food!

Later that evening the kids decorated cookies for Santa and it took them forever to get settled into bed. But when they did, we woke up the next morning to lots of presents under the tree... wink, wink!

Chandler got an iPod...Carter got drums for the Wii....Kensley got a Nintendo DS...and they got a lot more stuff to go with it! We had lots of fun playing with all the new toys & games yesterday as we watched the snow fall outside.

What a wonderful treat to get on Christmas Day... well, ours didn't really come until later that day but we woke up to a winter wonderland this morning. The snow started on Christmas Day around 3pm but was mostly rain/snow mix until around 5pm and then the flakes started falling. By 7:30 the ground was mostly covered and was so pretty.

This morning everything was covered in 3 1/2 inches of snow (some parts of the county got even more) and the kids were ready to go sledding. We went to Crest Middle School. It has a "big hill" which everyone loves to go to. The sledding down was fun, but the climb back up the hill was not! The kids had a blast anyways and I got some great pics from it. (Yes, I did sled too... I just never get my picture taken)

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas! I am so thankful for time spent with family, the beautiful snow, many presents and most of all the birth of our Savior!

Lotsa, lotsa Christmas stuff

Yeah, it's been a while since I've posted. Been just a tid-bit busy I would say. So I'm catching up today... while I'm home....and should be wrapping presents or something... but I'm blogging. Cause I don't want to get too far behind and have to blog about a whole month when exciting things are getting ready to happen. {giggle}

Ok, first off is Kensley's preschool Christmas program at Aldersgate... they sang the Reindeer Poky song... cute.

Snow! It was very brief but we had some HUGE snowflakes on Saturday the 18th. The kids ran outside in their snow gear (they couldn't really do anything b/c nothing stuck) and were able to catch some flakes on their tongues!

Going to see Santa...this was Kensley's first year sitting on Santa's lap.

Kensley's best friend John Michael spent the night with us a couple weeks ago & they exchanged presents. Two very happy kiddos!

Yummy soup!

My friend Missy gave me this recipe for potato soup & it's so yummy I had to share!

Baked Potato Soup

6 potatoes (or 4 large potatoes)
8oz sour cream
1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
6 cups milk
1 1/2 sticks butter
2/3 cup all purpose flour
salt & pepper to taste
Green onions & bacon pieces (optional)

Bake your potatoes at 400 for 1 hour or until done. (I didn't scrub them or wrap them... just stuck em in a pan & put em in de oven)
Let cool.

In a large pot on medium heat melt the butter. Add flour, stir well & cook for about 1 min. Then add the milk. Let cook, stirring frequently until mixture is bubbly & it thickens. Turn heat to low and add cheese, sour cream, salt & pepper. Scoop out the insides of the baked potatoes & add to mixture. Stir frequently until heated through.

Garnish with green onions & crumbled bacon pieces if desired.

Digital Christmas cards are here!

It's just around the corner... Christmas! My favorite time of year. I've been working on some new digital designs for this year that I am excited to premier here. Here's a few of the new designs that I've created and of course I can always custom design a card for you.

I'm also offering printing this year. Yay! I have found a printer that is great quality and it actually looks like a card as opposed to a photo print. So this year I am offering 2 options:

Disney 2010!

We had a wonderful family vacation the first of this month...the long awaited return to Disney! This was our first family vacation where it was just our family and it was so nice to spend some quality time together for a week. It's not much of a resting vacation when you spend 6-10 hours walking around parks but it's so much FUN! We visited 4 parks (Universal, Islands of Adventure, Magic Kingdom and Aquatica) and took advantage of the beautiful Orange Lake Resort where we stayed. This place was huge and had plenty of activities for the kids and adults.

Crazy thing was that Corby's parents and one of his sisters (& her family) were there the same week we were and they stayed at the same resort. So on the days we stayed at the resort so did the rest of the family and we got to have fun together.

I know it's long but trying to condense over 400 pictures to just a few is really hard. So here's a video of our trip.

My baby girl turned 4 today. The best part is that we are at Disney and we got to celebrate at the Magic Kingdom for her birthday. (I can't think of a better present than that!) For her present from us, we decided to give her a treat to go to the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Cinderella's castle. She LOVED it! She took her Cinderella costume and they gave her the royal treatment with a princess hair-do, make-up and a princess sash. Here's a few pics of her in the boutique...

I love my camera... but it's kinda heavy. Especially when you carry it around your neck all day long... and it's hot... and it gets sticky & aggravating. But now I have a solution...

I've been wanting a camera strap cover for a long time. I've seen them for larger cameras but never any for my size camera... until now. Well, technically I didn't see one for my camera but I have a friend who sews and made one for me to fit my camera... yay!!!! I'm so excited! Ready to test it out on our trip this week.

Labor Day Beach Trip 2010

We had our yearly vacation with the Haneline family this past weekend. This year was our trip to the beach (we alternate beach/mountains every year). I love the beach & so do my kids. All 24 of us piled into a big condo and had plenty of fun in the sun and family time together. We laughed, we played games, we ate, we napped, watched movies, built sandcastles and airplanes, rode waves and enjoyed each others company. You know that I take a ton of pictures so I had to combine into a slide show for your viewing pleasure.

Kensley's First Day of Preschool

Today Kensley started preschool in the 3yr old class at Aldersgate Playschool. She was so excited! First thing she said when she crawled in bed with me at 6:30am was "I can't wait to go to preschool today!". From that point until we left the house at 8:50... she didn't stop asking if it was time to go. Needless to say, I think she was ready.

First Days of School

The boys started school this week. The official first day was Wed, August 25... only one of them were able to officially call this their first day of school. Carter started 3rd grade this year in Mrs. Triplett & Mrs. Bowen's class. He was excited to get the teachers that he wanted and most of all that his best bud Jack is in his class again. The first day came with some tears in the morning but he calmed down by the time we got to school and ended up having a wonderful first day.

Then we have Chandler....
He woke up with a fever of 101.3...on the first day of school. There should be a rule or something that does not allow sickness the first week of school at least. But there was nothing I could do about it, so took him to the doctor... he had a virus... and learned that it just needed to run it's course. So on the couch he laid the majority of the day.

Today, Thurs. August 26... Chandler had his first day of 5th grade in Mrs. Kinmon's class. He stayed home for a couple hours and I took him at 10am. He was a little nervous today but all the kids cheered when he walked into the room. They were anxiously awaiting his arrival.

My kid is an upperclassmen now. It's hard to believe this year is already here. Seems like he just started Kindergarten... and now it's his last year in elementary school. (Sniffle, sniffle)

Carter's Baptism

I'm a proud Mommy today. Carter was baptized at church tonight at Moss Lake. He prayed to received Christ as his Lord & Savior on June 6th this year. We've been talking about baptism for a while and he was ready to go for it until he realized it was going to be at the lake. (This is something our church does once a year during the summer) He was all for getting baptized at church but for some reason he was a little timid about doing it in a lake. We've talked about it a lot and how cool it would be to be baptized like Jesus was in the river. Still he wasn't sure he was ready for it until this week. On Wednesday he said he was ready to be baptized and was fine with it being in the lake.

My parents were here, Corby's parents and one of his brothers family came. It was a wonderful time of celebration for everyone tonight. It was even more special because Corby was able to baptize him (just like he did with Chandler).

I just had a conversation the other day about how I'm hardly ever in any of the pictures that are taken of my family. I'm always the one behind the camera. That's not a bad thing except the fact that when my grandkids look at pictures of their parents, they are not going to have a clue what their grandma looked like when she was younger... because I'm not in any pictures. Sigh.

I am in love with this idea! I try it once in a while, but my camera is heavy so it's a big awkward to hold & do self portraits with. I guess I need to recruit my kids... so I challenge you. I'm going to try to take a picture of me & the kids... or at least a kid...every time I pull out the camera.

Family Legacy

We just returned home from Statesville. Corby's grandmother died last week and her funeral was on Thursday. While it was a great time to spend with family... in the midst of the situation... I've thought a lot about the legacy that his grandmother left. My children actually knew her & got to spend time with her over the years. I am so thankful for that because all of my grandparents have passed on. My boys were 4 & 2 when my last grandparent died. Chandler remembers a little but Carter only remembers what he sees in pictures. I had a great relationship with my great-grandparents (and grandparents too) and many fond memories of times spent with them. I want that for my children and they had a chance to experience it with Grandmaw Haneline.

She was one of 14 children...had 7 children of her own... and was a Godly woman. She loved the Lord and she loved life. She loved to sing and play her guitar and I remember many Christmases sitting around listening to her & her children making music. Talking with my father-in-law the night before the funeral was great. His love for his mother showed so much and to be with her the last few days of her life was priceless to him. Her funeral was a celebration of the life she lived. It was evident, from all of the people packed into the church that day, how many lives she touched. Many tears were shed but I know she was looking down from heaven and smiling. One of the things the pastor asked us to do was to close our eyes and imagine a time with her. I could see the smile on her face. Always a smile. She left this earth knowing that she was ready to meet her Maker.

She left a wonderful legacy in the family that is still here on earth...mine included. When our days on earth are done we will leave a legacy behind as well. I want it to be something worth remembering.

Ahhh summer...

Mostly, I love summer. I love the laziness of summer. However, when it's drawing near the end of it there are things that I start to dislike. One of the main things is the lack of a schedule. I start out strong in the beginning and usually after we get back from vacation I have just totally dumped the routine. Therefore leaving a whole month of hectic craziness to endure. Late to rise... late to bed is getting old. I love my kids, but around 8pm... well, I'm rather tired of them. Every person needs a break... at least for a couple hours. I need time to wind down & relax and with 3 kids that usually doesn't happen before 10pm in the summer. Even the 3 year old is going strong at the late hour. I'm ready for 8:30 bedtimes and a few hours of tv, scrapbooking, cardmaking, reading or whatever I need to do to wind down at the end of the day.

Even in all things... be thankful. When I think about them getting on my nerves, I am more thankful for the time that I get to spend with my kids. The fact that I am home with them for the summer... going to the pool, watching movies, being lazy, taking trips, going to grandparents & friends... is worth every bit of it.

Here's what I love about summer and dread about it ending:
-I love having no homework for the summer. I don't like getting back into it full force within a day or two of starting school.
-I love sleeping late. I'm a night owl so this suits me well. I don't like having to wake up to an alarm every day of the week.
-I love coming home from the pool and taking a nap. Being wiped out because we are all so tired from the heat is a great feeling. I don't like sitting in the car rider line to pick up my kids when it's still 100 degrees and knowing I have to come home to start homework with them.
-I love eating all the fresh fruits and veggies of the summer. They are plentiful and fairly reasonable priced at the grocery stores. I don't like going back to the carbs after the summer crop is gone (because I'm not paying $7 for a 1/4 of a watermelon).
-I love an afternoon thunderstorm in the summer. I can smell it coming. I don't like rain in the fall. It's cold and reminds me that winter is just around the corner.

Ok, so I admit at this point that I am a "Blockhead"... and I don't mean the ditsy kind. (Don't judge me :-) This past weekend I had a fabulous girls weekend in Greensboro with one of my girlfriends from college. As part of that weekend I attended yet another New Kids on the Block concert... this will be my 4th in the past 3 years. (Click here and here to see my first 3 trips).

Except this concert was even better because the Backstreet Boys were touring with them to make a combination of NKOTBSB!

Here’s a bit of history for you: **Of course as a teeny bopper in the late 80's & early 90's I loved me some New Kids. I attended many of their concerts, had my room plastered in posters & magazine covers, purchased many t-shirts and big buttons, recorded every episode of Arsenio Hall, MTV and any other TV show that they appeared on and of course had all the cassette tapes, singles cassettes and VHS tapes that came out. They were the Justin Bieber of today.

As they started to phase out & new boy bands tried to replace them... (never will happen, but that's beside the point)... the Backstreet Boys came on the scene. They were in a battle as best boy band in the mid-late 90's with NSync. But the BSB (Backstreet Boys) would be the only group that would even come close to my New Kids. I'm older, more mature at this point... still liking this group a lot & purchasing all of their cd's... but still just not the same.

Fast-forward to early 2008. There is "talk" that a new website is up & running at www.nkotb.com. What?! Are they coming back?????? You can imagine my excitement as all the memories came rushing back from the days of neon hammer pants, high top Reeboks and big hair. In May 2008 the official announcement is released & NKOTB makes their first appearance as a group on the Today Show. I think I screamed like a little girl! **

Who knew that this boy band from the 80's could make a come back & be successful and still running strong after 3 years?! It's funny because all of those teen girls are now 30 & 40 somethings and I think this group is even more popular now than they were 20 years ago! They announced last year they were joining up with the Backstreet Boys and would start touring again in 2011. Cha-ching! Yep, that brings even more of a crowd and of course, I was gonna have to see them again.

Beach 2010

We have returned home from our beach vacation. As usual, it was too short. I always look at the cars that are going home on the way to the beach & think "I'm glad that's not me" and then the day we come home I look at the cars going to the beach and think "I wish that was us". I'm thankful for the time that we had there & that it was a great week. This is the 7th year that we have vacationed with the Stamey family. Each year gets better & better as we venture to do new things and the kids get older & more independent on the beach. (Much more time for us to relax :)

The weather was wonderful... hot, but a nice breeze on the beach and it didn't rain except for one night. We had our usual's again this year... a visit to Krispy Kreme, putt-putt, and riding the rides at Broadway. We also did a couple new things.... we visited Alligator Adventure Park and went to the Alabama Theatre. Alligator Adventure was okay, but it was soooo hot & Chandler got sick while we were there. Not too fun. The Alabama Theatre was GREAT! The show was great... singing, dancing and comedy. I say it was well worth the money, plus the kids got in free.

Between me & Mae we took a TON of pictures... can you imagine that??? Trying to condense them to the best ones was rather hard, so rather making my post 10 pages of pictures, I put them all into a slideshow.... enjoy while you listen to some great songs.

Kensley's first sleepover

Well, not technically, because she's stayed with grandparents a lot, but it's her first "friend" sleepover. While Carter's friends came over a few nights ago, Kensley went to stay with my friend Angie & John Michael. Angie's practically her second momma and John Michael is like her brother, so she was really excited! They were so cute talking about it together. Kensley told everybody where she was going that night. She woke up from her nap & was ready to go.

Angie took them to Sonic for supper.

They rode the little merry go round.

And had "th-lushies" as Kensley calls them.

Then home to play and bath time. When Kensley got in the tub she told Angie, "Wow... i want to spend 4 nights at your house!"

Angie said they finally went to bed about 10:30 and cuddled each other the whole night. So sweet! K wasn't ready to go home when I went to pick her up the next day & JM wasn't ready for her to leave. So I would say that this first sleepover was a success!

Carter celebrated his 8th birthday last week. He wanted to have a sleepover for his party, so on Tuesday night, that's what we did. One of his friends was sick & couldn't come, but Peyton & Jack were there. We went swimming at the YMCA, came home, ate pizza, they played, had cake at 9:30 pm (what was I thinking?!), they watched a movie & finally I convinced them to turn out the lights about 12:30am. They had a fun time together!

Holiday Weekend

We had a busy, but fun weekend. The kids were in Y camp all week long. Kensley's little group celebrated on Friday with a patriotic parade around the Y. They were given tutu's, hats and a star wand to march around with.

Friday night we went to Hickory to celebrate Carter's 8th birthday. We had supper with Mimi & PawPaw & he opened presents. Then MamMaw & PaPaw met us to pick up Chandler so he could go on a trip in PaPaw's big truck on Saturday.

Saturday afternoon some of my girlfriends from college came to the Boiling Springs Y & we spent the afternoon together playing at the pool.

Sunday we spent the afternoon & evening at Moss Lake. Some friends from church have hosted at their house for several years now. It's always a big crowd from church and the kids look forward to playing in the lake, riding jet skis & watching fireworks. Kensley LOVED the jet ski this year. She didn't really want to share her Daddy for anyone else to ride. But she had fun in the lake too. The boys always love playing with all of their friends from church and watching the fireworks at the end of the day. Here's a few pics from our day.

College Reunion

I love my girlfriends from college. We've all remained close and have stayed in touch over the years. Each year we try to organize some sort of gathering for us and our families. Most of us live within driving distance of each other and for the past 3 years it's worked out great that we have been able to come to the Ruby YMCA in Boiling Springs. We've created a July 4th tradition that I hope will continue for many more years.

This year was low in numbers, but we still had a great time seeing each other. Here's a few pictures of our evening together.

Happy 8th Birthday Carter Loo!

Little Carter loo-loo (that's what I used to call him) turned 8 yesterday. I just wanted to share a few tidbits about Carter to celebrate his 8th year.

On June 5th of this year he asked Jesus to be his Lord and Savior...Yay! I am so very proud of his decision and the fact that his Daddy & myself were the ones who lead him in that prayer. What an honor as his parents!

Carter lives up to his red-head... meaning...he is spicy & sweet. He's a very determined kid & is hard to back down. However, if you give him a gentle touch and a kind word and he is as tender as can be. I love that about him. He knows when he's done something wrong and will almost always come up to me and say he's sorry. He's a great teacher... especially to his little sister. He loves to sit down with her and play school. He's already taught her some of the multiplication tables! He's also a great brother. He will play whatever with whoever... even plays babydolls with Kensley. He's aspiring to be an "arther and drawer" (his words). He makes up stories and loves to draw pictures.

Carter is very athletic. He loves sports, any sport. He would probably say his favorite sport is football even though he has never played other than in the backyard.
He's fast as lightening and can woosh right by you with his road runner legs. (Probably would make a good football player but I'm not ready for that yet.) I tell him to put his energy into soccer. He's also a good student. Always gets compliments from his teachers about how respectful and polite he is.

I'm so very proud of my Carter... and all of my children for that matter. But today is Carter's special day. Happy Birthday Loo... I love you!

Riding horses

This past weekend we were in Statesville visiting Corby's Grandma Haneline (she's very sick by the way). She lives way out in the country. I mean waaaay out. The kids were super excited to be there because Corby's Aunt Jeanie has been telling them for a while to come see her & they can ride horses. So when we left Saturday afternoon, all of my kids were in there cowboy/cowgirl attire & ready to ride. It didn't really help any that we had just watched the movie Flicka 2 either. I wish I had taken a picture, but the boys were in jeans & long sleeved button up shirts (because they looked like cowboy shirts) and boots. Kensley had her cowgirl hat on, a jean skirt, t-shirt & her pink boots. (can we say HOT... it's a hundred degrees & my kids are in long sleeves & long pants... makes me sweat just thinking about it)

We did get to pet the horses on Saturday evening but it was too late to ride. Fortunately, we were able to go back the next day and all the kids were able to ride. This is Faithy...the horse.

Friday I had the pleasure of spending the afternoon with a dear friend from high school. We spent the day at the pool and the kids played while me & Brandi took some time to catch up on life. We've stayed connected through the years & her family even lived right down the road from us here in Shelby for a few years. I kept her oldest two girls and felt like they were my own. Everyone always thought I had 4 kids when I had them in tow.

They live in Charlotte now, so we don't get a chance to see each other as often. The two little girls took to each other right away and had a wonderful time giggling and playing. They only knew each other in utero... hee, hee! It's so crazy to see how much the older girls have grown. Here's a few pictures from our day.

A day in the mount-uns

Yes, that's how my kids say mountains. They are country. Just like their mama. We went to my parents this past weekend. On Saturday we spent the day at Julian Price Park in Blowing Rock... it's on the Blue Ridge Parkway. We used to frequent this place when I was young. I have many, many fond memories of this park.... picnics, playing in the creek, hikes, games, relaxing... you name it. My kids love to visit this park too. They've been several times over the past few years with Mimi & PawPaw. When the boys were smaller they always said they wanted to go "throw yocks in the keek" (translation... throw rocks in the creek). Saturday we got to spend most of the day here as a family. It hasn't changed a bit... but I don't remember the water being so cold. Guess that's a sign that I'm getting older.

We grilled hotdogs for lunch, all the boys took a hike on the trail, played in the creek, raced boats, threw rocks and relaxed. Such a fun day! I'm glad my kids can experience some of the memories I had growing up.

Ahhhh... the last day of school is done. Looking forward to officially starting the summer. Most of all looking forward to no homework, sleeping in & not having to stick to schedule. I love the freedom of summer, the smell of sunscreen and sound of afternoon thunderstorms. I've got a good summer planned out... well, sort of a plan... and we are all looking forward to many trips to the pool, visiting family & friends and most of all the beach. Sleepover Birthday Party #1

For the boys birthday this year, we decided they could have a sleepover as their party. They have been to sleepovers before but we have never been the host of one. Chandler's birthday was a couple weeks ago & we had his sleepover this past Sunday night since the kids were out of school on Memorial Day. He had 3 friends over... Caleb, Nick & Walt. The boys had a great time playing soccer in the backyard, playing the Wii, watching movies & eating pizza and popcorn. Around 1:30 am I had to say lights out because I couldn't hold my eyes open anymore, plus 2 boys were already asleep. Monday morning it rained. And rained. And rained. Our house is small... there is not much to do inside our house except play the Wii or watch movies. Finally about noon the rain let up & the boys were able to go outside & exert some energy. We had a cookout for lunch. Mimi, PawPaw & my aunt Connie came to join the celebration. Tuesday was my Mom's birthday, so we sang happy birthday to her too.

Overall, I think it was a great experience. Much better than I expected. The boys had a good time and we actually got some sleep. Now let's see how things go in a few weeks when it will be Carter's turn.
